The Naviti Resort, Coral Coast, Fiji

Background
The Naviti Resort is a 140-room, four star resort on the Coral Coast of the Fiji mainland. During its refurbishment in March 2002, the Resort commissioned Red Turtle to create an original art collection for the rooms.

Over 400 original pieces of art were created for the Resort. Each room includes two framed original wood-block prints and one ‘Pacific Portal’ – a unique sculptural installation crafted from 18mm PVC.

Eight original designs were created for the wood-block prints in two size formats, with each design being printed in a series of 20 over two colour-ways - creating 16 unique presentations in total.

Brief
‘To create a ‘distinctly Pacific concept’ for the artwork in the refurbished rooms of The Naviti Resort.
The requirement was to furnish site-specific wall art to complement the interior spatial design ethos and reflect the Pacific environment of the Resort.

Red Turtle submitted the concept of including a wall-mounted sculptural installation in the collections to introduce new media to the collection, while creating a point of difference for the client.

Art on every surface
The ‘Pacific Portal’ is an original sculptural concept created specifically for The Naviti Resort.

Three original Red Turtle designs have been translated into dimensional sculptures crafted from 18mm industrial PVC. Each design is characterised by repetitive linear detailing with an underlying Pacific theme. The portals are wall-mounted on custom fittings designed to cantilever them from the wall. The spectacular result is highlighted by subtle light play and shadow detailing.
