The Pizza Box

Background
A new design benchmark was set in the New Zealand’s fast-food industry when the stylish first outlet of The Pizza Box opened in November 2001.

Recognising that today’s fast-food customer is just as discerning about their eating environment as menu and food quality, The Pizza Box owners commissioned Red Turtle as lead Designers at an early stage.

The Red Turtle designed industrial exterior, and contemporary ‘café-style’ interior, distinguish The Pizza Box from more traditional fast-food counterparts. “We have developed the formula for a fresh look to reflect the more sophisticated demands of today’s foodies”, said lead designer Victoria McAnulty.

Brief
The brief for Red Turtle was ‘to create a fast food environment for the new millennium’.

The interior furnishings were all custom designed by Red Turtle, highlighted by the ‘Lifesavers’ which cut a swathe down the centre of the restaurant. An elliptical cabinet was also custom designed by Red Turtle to function both as a waste-recepticle and room-divider. The bathrooms are distinguished with brightly coloured feature walls, and accessed via a moody corridor with a chocolate tiled floor.
